These 3m set flats are constructed from the best quality, responsibly sourced, PSE (planed square edge) redwood timber. A mixture of 2×1 and 2×2 grade wood is used in the panels and all joints are glued and screwed. The timber is checked throughout the construction process for length and defects and frames are built to strict plans with a +/- 0.5mm tolerance rule. Before assembly all the parts are stained black.
All flats are serviced & graded each time they come back to base. Panels that do not make A-grade will be checked to see if they meet B-grade standards. If a set flat has too many small defects or any one large defect it will automatically go into quarantine. Panels that have been deemed suitable as A or B grade are serviced, packed and stored ready to go out. Panels in quarantine undergo a further assessment. If the framework is structurally sound and not too worn they will be stripped, serviced and recovered. At that point it would be an A-grade panel again. If the frame is deemed to be past its best it will be stripped of fabric and disassembled. The timber is then transferred into our recycled-timber stock that is used for on site bracing and consumables.
